Lupita Nyong's Pearl-Draped, $150,000 Calvin Klein Oscars's Dress Stolen From Hollywood Hotel Room
The $150,00, pearl decorated Calvin Klein dress worn by Academy Award winner Lupita Nyong'o at this month's 2015 Oscars' show was stolen from her hotel room soon after Sunday's program.
According to TMZ.com, the 6,000 white Akoya pearl-adorned dress was stolen from Nyong'o's London West Hollywood hotel room sometime between the hours of 8 a.m. Monday morning and 9 p.m. Tuesday night while she was away from the room.
The website adds investigators are now meticulously reviewing video surveillance footage that could catch the alleged culprit red handed.
Yahoo.com reports the "12 Years a Slave" star worked hand and hand with designer Francisco Coast in masterminding the 6,000 natural pearl-draped garment. "It was so much fun to create this dress," she told the website. "We talked about it being fluid and liquid. I wanted it to be an homage to the sea."
Figuring out what might have happened to the treasure might prove quite the challenge, given that since Nyong'o didn't actually own the dress she's not even legally allowed to file a police report about the theft of it. Yahoo reports Calvin Klein officials would have to file such a report.
"We got a call at about 11:30 last night from someone at the London Hotel about a high value dress that was stolen from a hotel room," L.A. County Sheriff's Department Officer John Mitchell told reporters.
In their preliminary investigation, authorities have determined that everyone from hair stylists to makeup artists to managers, agents, friends and stylists all had access to Nyong'o room. Investigators are said to now being studying all the footage from Nyong'o's room during the time she was away from the hotel.
Thirty-one-year-old Nyong'o was awarded the 2014 Oscars for Best Supporting Actress for her role in the critically-acclaimed flick, her first major role in a Hollywood featured film.
