A Zumba instructor who was involved in an illegal sex work ring has been released after serving six months of a ten-month sentence.

29-year-old Alexis Wright was released early for good behavior and also participated in a work program in order to increase her chances of an earlier release.

Wright had managed the ring from the New England area but investigators started to catch on in 2011, thanks to a tip to law enforcement. It was not until 2012 when the authorities carried out a raid on the fitness studio, which was one of the key locations of the illegal operation.

Wright's business partner, Mark Strong, was heavily involved and court documents showed that he would receive videotaped Skype footage from Wright. Furthermore, Strong had control over the entire operation by requiring that he approve each and every session on Skype.

Strong was sentenced to 20 days in jail for conspiring to and promoting prostitution while also having to pay nearly $60,000 in restitution and fines.

At the sentencing, Wright acknowledged the crimes committed and vowed to improve as a person while behind bars.

"I am a person who knows the difference between right and wrong and for this reason I chose to take the time in jail to take responsibility for my actions," she said at the time.

"The problem is that a situation like mine is happening every day all over the country and it seems as though everyone would rather turn a blind eye to it rather than see the ugly reality that it is," Wright said. "It is my intention to stand up for what is right and when I get out I am going to pursue helping people fight through situations similar to mine."
