Carrie Underwood Baby: Country Singer and NHL Pro Mike Fisher Share First Picture of Son [Pic]
Country singer Carrie Underwood welcomed her first child, a son, with husband and Nashville Predators hockey player Mike Fisher on Friday.
Underwood announced the birth of her son on Tuesday with a first photo of the newborn.
In September, Underwood had debuted her pregnancy with a photo that she captioned: "In honor of 'Labor' Day, Ace & Penny would like to make an announcement. Their parents couldn't be happier."
Fans were left to wonder the sex of the baby until fellow country star Brad Paisley let slip the baby's sex when he and Underwood hosted the 2014 Country Music Association Awards. "We could name him Garth," he joked.
Underwood, 31, and her 34-year-old husband had chosen not to disclose their baby's sex, but did not seem upset with Paisley's big reveal.
"[It was] just the two of us in a nicer setting, but we both knew," she told People magazine in November. "So, that was just confirming our suspicions. We didn't really speak of it before because we were both just like, 'Whatever. It's all good.' But we knew it was a boy."
In a December Entertainment Tonight interview, Underwood revealed that Fisher was "ecstatic" to become a dad and initially hoped for a daughter. "He would have been excited for a girl. We planned on having a girl," she told ET, but then added, "We're both really excited and just can't wait to meet him."
In early February, Underwood told People that the couple was still deciding on the baby's name.
"We need to lock that down here pretty soon," she said. "We joke a lot about funny things that go with Fisher, but there's not some family name that I have had to be like, 'No! That's terrible!' "
Underwood began dating Fisher after they met at one of her concerts in late 2008. The couple became engaged in December 2009. They made their public debut as a couple at an annual charity fundraiser held by the Ottawa Senators hockey team in January 2010.
On July 10, 2010, Underwood and Fisher wed at The Ritz-Carlton Lodge in Greensboro, Georgia.
