The Portland Trail Blazers have reportedly tried to reach out to Ray Allen in the hope of convincing him to return after the team lost starting shooting guard Wesley Matthews for the remainder of the 2014-15 NBA season.

Aiming to remain in strong contention for the championship this season, the Blazers want Allen to replace Matthews. According to Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo Sports, Blazers general manager Neil Olshey talked to Allen's agent, Jim Tanner, to convince the sharp-shooting guard to make a comeback this season.

However, Tanner reportedly informed Olshey that Allen will not reconsider his decision to sit out this season. The 39-year-old shooting guard is not interested in signing with the Blazers or any other team and will just think about returning for another year or just retire for good in the offseason.

Allen, who averaged 9.6 points to go along with 2.8 rebounds and 2.0 assists with the Miami Heat last season, recently announced his decision to sit the rest of the 2014-15 NBA season despite receiving strong interests from title-contending teams.

"Over the past several months, I have taken a lot of time to deliberate what is best for me," Allen said in a statement via ESPN. "I've ultimately decided that I will not play this NBA season. I'm going to take the remainder of this season, as well as the upcoming offseason, to reassess my situation, spend time with my family and determine if I will play in the 2015-16 season."

The Cleveland Cavaliers, led by LeBron James, made an aggressive pitch to sign Allen in the hope of improving their title chances, but the league's all-time leader in converted 3-pointers did not budge.

Aside from the Cavaliers, the Chicago Bulls, Golden State Warriors, Miami Heat, Washington Wizards and Oklahoma City Thunder were also linked to the 18-year veteran before he announced his decision.

With their failed attempt to convince Allen to reconsider his decision, the Blazers will have to rely on players who are currently on their roster to fill the gap left by Matthews, who was ruled out for the remainder of the season after sustaining a torn Achilles tendon on Thursday.

Arron Afflalo, who was acquired by the Blazers in a trade with the Denver Nuggets before the deadline, will likely start for the Blazers, while C.J. McCollum, Allen Crabbe, Alonzo Gee and Dorrel Wright are expected to get additional minutes moving forward.
