Manny Pacquiao vs Floyd Mayweather Fight Update: Zab Judah Helping ‘Money’ in Camp as Filipino’s Camp Is Unfazed
Floyd Mayweather Jr. wants to get used to facing a southpaw as he prepares for his upcoming fight against Manny Pacquiao, and reports revealed that the reigning pound-for-pound king picked Zab Judah as his sparring partner.
Judah, a southpaw who is also known for his quickness, will try to simulate Pacquiao's fighting style to help Mayweather prepare for the biggest fight of his career on May 2, but Pacquiao's camp is not losing sleep about it.
Michael Koncz, legal adviser of Pacquiao, said in an interview with The Manila Times that while Judah is quick like Pacquiao, the 37-year-old does not possess the same skills as the Filipino boxing icon, which is the reason why they are not worried about the Brooklyn native helping Mayweather in training camp.
"We don't care about it," Koncz said of Mayweather's decision to spar with Judah. "Nobody in this world can do what Manny [Pacquiao] does inside the ring. Zab Judah is a southpaw just like Manny, but he can't be like Manny in many ways that's why we're not bothered."
Koncz is oozing with confidence at this point after Pacquiao impressed in the opening week of training camp at Wild Card Gym in Los Angeles despite not having Hall of Fame trainer Freddie Roach, who was in Macau last week to help Zou Shiming for his fight last Saturday.
Koncz said that Pacquiao's training is going as planned and that the eight-division champion is focused every session, which was the reason why they decided to close the gym to the public every time the former pound-for-pound king is training.
"Everything is fine and great," Koncz said of Pacquiao's preparation for the fight. "That's what all I can say. I don't want to act rude with somebody but we lockout Manny's training and I can't discuss anything more to you about it. I know you people will understand it."
In a separate interview, Pacquiao, the reigning World Boxing Organization welterweight champion, also said that the first week of camp went great and he feels ready to face Mayweather.
The 36-year-old Filipino revealed that they have been working on how to break the defense of Mayweather, and he is confident they already have the perfect plan.
"His defense is not totally flawless," Pacquiao said of Mayweather in an interview with PhilBoxing. "I knew I can hit him. All I need is patience, timing and blinding speed."
