Analysts are predicting that the Xbox One and Playstation 4 game consoles won't be any more affordable until some point in 2014 or 2015.

Microsoft and Sony enjoyed great success with their respective launch events as both companies tallied more than 1 million units sold within 24 hours of release. The new, next generation game consoles were hyped up for several months and that has translated into such high demand that we can expect the $400 and $500 price tags to remain in place for the foreseeable future.

Although the news is a sign of success for the rival companies, history is on pace to repeat itself so this should not come as much surprise. The Xbox 360 was launched in 2005 and gamers did not see the price dip at all until the latter portion of 2007.

In an interview with CNET, game industry analyst Matt Matthews made an understandable prediction that the price drops would follow the same trajectory as with the previous release.

"The two new consoles will likely not have official price drops until spring 2015, at the earliest," he said.

The Xbox One was initially off to a slower start in the beginning of the fall as Microsoft was late to announce a release date. Gamers were able to plan around the Playstation 4 release much sooner after Sony was the first to set a release date; Microsoft Xbox One followed suit shortly after but the release date would be a week later. The Playstation 4 was on the shelves on November 15 while the Xbox One went on sale exactly a week later on November 22.
