One of the GOP hopeful for the 2016 presidential campaign, Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas, continues his crusade against marriage equality.

This week he called the increasing tide of judicial decisions on same-sex marriage bans a "real danger to our liberty."

Speaking to WHO radio host Jan Mickelson, Sen. Cruz criticized the recent decisions by courts around the nation overturning bans on same-sex couples, allowing gay and lesbians to marry.

"We have seen judges, and especially the Supreme Court, ignoring the law," Cruz said, adding: "If the courts were following the Constitution, we shouldn't need a new amendment, but they are, as you put it quite rightly, 'making it up' right now and it's a real danger to our liberty."

Sen. Cruz touted his efforts to reverse this with a new bill. He explained his bill ensures "that the federal government and unelected judges cannot set aside the democratically elected legislatures' reasonable decisions to enact and protect traditional marriage."

According to the Des Moines Register, Sen. Cruz attended a meeting on Monday with various evangelical Christians. His appearance at the American Renewal Project's "Pastors and Pews" event was closed off to the press.

Nonetheless, he could be heard saying that the recent increase in cases against same-sex marriage bans was "unrelenting assault on traditional marriage," and that judges ruling against the bans were "ignoring their oaths, ignoring the Constitution and legislating from the bench."

He also criticized President Barack Obama, calling him "an apologist for radical Islamic terrorism."

Back in February, Sen. Cruz, along with 11 other Republicans, re-introduced the State Marriage Defense Act, "which respects the definition of marriage held by the people of each state and protects states from the federal government's efforts to force any other definition upon them," according to a press release from the senator's office.

"Even though the Supreme Court made clear in United States v. Windsor that the federal government should defer to state 'choices about who may be married,' the Obama Administration has disregarded state marriage laws enacted by democratically-elected legislatures to uphold traditional marriage," said Sen. Cruz.

"I support traditional marriage and we should reject attempts by the Obama Administration to force same-sex marriage on all 50 states. The State Marriage Defense Act helps safeguard the ability of states to preserve traditional marriage for their citizens."
