Black Friday 2013 News, Sales, and Deals: Instead of Price Cuts, Apple Offers Complementary Gift Cards With Purchase
Apple waited until the last minute to announce Black Friday deals - literally.
The tech giant has a tradition of remaining vague about what the specific deals are but this year they offered more of an indirect deal for customers; gift cards worth up to $150 would be given to shoppers who make a separate purchase.
It was an interesting move by Apple to offset the usual Black Friday patterns of having items marked down. If anything, the hefty gift cards are incredibly appealing while the deal also forces shoppers to make another purchase at the same time. Furthermore, gift cards are a great way to keep shoppers from buying the wrong gifts while allowing the recipients of the gift cards to pick and choose from products on their own.
Shoppers who splurge on a new iPad will end up with a gift card up to $75; people who purchase a Mac will get a gift card worth up to $150; and anyone who purchases an iPod will receive an Apple gift card up to $50.
The products themselves are not directly marked down like they are at other stores such as retailers. Target cut the price of the iPad Air by $20 and shoppers would receive a $100 Target gift card to go along with it. Some of the retailers are offering even better deals than Apple; Apple offered the iPad Mini for $299 to go along with a $50 gift card but Best Buy's deal included a $100 gift card after purchasing the iPad Mini for the same price as at Apple.
