Barcelona News: Luis Suarez Left English Premier League Liverpool Team Because of England Media
Barcelona forward Luis Suarez is one of the most magnetic soccer players in the world today. While playing in the English Premier League for Liverpool FC, Suarez was the center of multiple controversies.
The English media reported several incidents involving Suarez during his tenure in the EPL including biting opposing players.
Now, Suarez is taking a bite at the English media.
Suarez played for Liverpool for four seasons. After the 2013-14 season, Suarez was named the "EPL Player of the Year," the first ever Uruguayan-born player to do so. Suarez scored a league high 31 goals in his final season but stunned many when he left after that very season.
Suarez didn't just leave Liverpool. He left the English Premier League completely after agreed with Barcelona on a five contract. The best player in EPL was now headed to La Liga. Money and the opportunity to play alongside one of the greatest soccer players in history, Lionel Messi, certainly played a large factor, but Suarez has recently opened up saying there was more to it than that.
According to multiple reports, Suarez claims that he left Liverpool last year "because he felt mistreated by the English Press."
While the English media loves to focus on their star soccer players on every angle on what seems like a 24 hour endurance, they may have had good reason to do so. During Suarez's time in England, he stood out like Big Ben in London.
Suarez has been accused of biting three players, one of which said incident occurred when he was playing on the Liverpool roster against Chelsea's own Branislav Ivanović. Just one year before joining Liverpool, Suarez was accused of biting Otman Bakkal while he was playing for AFC Ajax. Obviously Suarez's most notable controversy was his bite to Italy's Giorgio Chiellini during the 2014 FIFA World Cup. Suarez was also involved in a racial abuse incident with Patrice Evra in 2011.
"I am very happy at Barca, I fulfilled a dream to play at the best club in the world and now I am enjoying it. I am contributing things to the team and that leaves me calmer and makes me feel important. The family are very happy in Barcelona and enjoying a city that we knew. The children are in the school and my wife is very happy."
Suarez went on to explain that he thinks the English media may actually "miss" him.
“I don’t know if there is a campaign of the English press towards me, but it can be seen that they miss me. They criticize me so much that they look for something that is not there to draw attention.”
While many fans don't approve of Suarez's controversial actions and opinions, his soccer skills can't be denied or overlooked. Suarez has scored five goals in the last two FIFA World Cups. He, Messi and Neymar have created a South American trio that has Barcelona presently in first place in the La Liga standings ahead of Cristiano Ronaldo and Real Madrid. This season Suarez has seven goals and nine assists in his 15 La Liga games for Barcelona.
Maybe Suarez has finally found his true calling. Maybe the Spanish Premier Division just fits Suarez better than the English Premier League. Perhaps Spain is just a better location for Suarez to showcase his talents. But until we are all positively confident Suarez is finally done with his incidents, we'll all be keeping an eye on him.
