It all happened so fast, there was no time to grieve: Sunday night's episode of The Walking Dead, titled "Too Far Gone," featured hard-core action one after another in dizzying succession that fans are left dumbfounded as they watched the mid-season finale, reports the Wall Street Journal.

In the previous episode, the Governor left us with a heart-stopping scene: he aimed his gun at a smiling Michonne and Hershel. In this latest episode, the scene begins with the one-eyed villain telling his new camp a whole new set of lies. He gathers the people to a meeting and tells them he has found the perfect place for them to live in peace: the prison. He then tells them that Rick and his gang were the ones who destroyed Woodbury, and he has two of the "murderers and thieves" in captivity, according to Access Hollywood. Lying through his teeth, he says, "These people - they mutilated me, burnt my camp, killed my daughter," and so convinces his new group that it's a fight worth warring for. Lilly, however, remains unconvinced.

Hershel tries to reason with the Governor, while Michonne promises to kill him. No matter what they do however, the Governor's plan is set. Back at the prison, Daryl finally learns about what Carol did, and he disapproves of Rick's decision to let her go. They look for Tyreese to tell him the truth, but before they can do so, Tyreese informs them about something disturbing: someone in their camp has been feeding rats to the walkers. Heading on outside, Rick and the men are confronted with a cold-blooded sight: the Governor is outside the prison gates, and he's got a tank.

Rick tries to reason with the Governor, pleading with him to give both camps the opportunity to live in peace but the Governor, who is "too far gone," instead uses Michonne's sword to slice through Hershel's neck. All hell breaks loose. Lilly shows up with Megan's corpse, the child had been bitten by a walker while playing in the mud, and the Governor shoots her in the head. Both camps are firing at each other now. The Governor beheads Hershel. Michonne slips away. Rick and the Governor fight mano-a-mano, and when it seems Rick is going to meet his end, the Governor gets stabbed by Michonne, who is fulfilling her promise to kill him. Michonne and Rick escape. Maggie gets Glenn on the getaway bus, but misses it herself when she goes back to find Beth; Sasha and Bob are left behind too. Tyreese is saved by Lizzie and Mika, who guns down two antagonists from the Governor's camp. Baby Judith's carrier is found bloodied, bringing the Grimes men to devastated sobs.

The prison is gone, and it all happened so fast, so tragically. As the show closes, Rick tells Carl a heartbreaking line, "Don't look back."
