'Dropped' TV Death: Bodies Identified Following Deadly French Reality TV Show Accident in Argentina
In Argentina, 10 people were killed in a horrific accident while filming a reality TV show staring famous athletes.
The number of the dead includes Olympic champion swimmer Camille Muffat, renowned yachtswoman Florence Arthaud, and Olympic boxer Alexis Vastine.
The team of forensic experts have now identified the bodies of the 10 victims that were killed.
The people died while two helicopters that were filming the French reality show, starring three of France’s top sports celebrities, collided in Argentina.
As reported by the Telegraph, Daniel Herrera, the Argentine judge who was leading the investigation, said on Monday, "The bodies of the eight French nationals and two Argentine pilots have been identified."
The helicopters involved with the deadly accident were in the middle of filming an episode of a show called "Dropped."
The concept behind the reality show is that famous sports stars are taken blindfolded into inhospitable environments where they must survive.
The helicopters collided mid-air in a mountainous region of northwest Argentina.
The accident took the life of Olympic champion swimmer Camille Muffat, as well as the renowned yachtswoman Florence Arthaud, and the Olympic boxer Alexis Vastine.
Aside from the athletes five French television crew members as well as two Argentine pilots were also killed.
The recovered bodies were badly burned, and it took French and Argentine forensic experts a week to identify the bodies.
Herrera explained that the forensic teams had to rely upon dental and medical records, as well as X-rays to discover the identities.
As quoted in the Telegraph, Herrera said, "The bodies are still at the morgue (in the city of La Rioja). I will sign the authorisation for them to be taken to Buenos Aires."
The show was meant to air on the French network TF1 in July.
The production company behind the reality series cancelled shooting immediately after the helicopter crash.
