Kraft Macaroni and Cheese Recall: Kraft Says 6.5 Million Boxes of Mac and Cheese Might Contain Metal Pieces
Mac and cheese lovers should double check the label on the original flavor of Kraft Macaroni & Cheese boxes before whipping it up for dinner.
In a press release, Kraft Foods announced that it is recalling more than 6.5 million boxes of its signature macaroni and cheese over concerns they contain pieces of metal. A company spokeswoman said the boxes were packed into 242,000 cases that were then shipped to the U.S., Puerto Rico, and in some countries in the Caribbean and South America, reports NBC News. However, they were not sent to Canada.
The voluntary recall was launched after eight customers reported finding small pieces of metal inside. Fortunately, no injuries were reported, Kraft said.
"The recalled product is limited to the 7.25-oz. size of the Original flavor of boxed dinner with the 'Best When Used By' dates of September 18, 2015 through October 11, 2015, with the code 'C2' directly below the date on each individual box. The 'C2' refers to a specific production line on which the affected product was made," Kraft said in the statement released on Tuesday.
"Consumers who purchased this product should not eat it," said the Northfield, Illinois- based company. "They should return it to the store where purchased for an exchange or full refund."
Some of the products were also packaged in multi-pack units with a range of different code dates and manufacturing codes on the boxes, Kraft added.
Following the recall, shares of Kraft Foods Group fell 1.91 percent at $60.52 by late morning trading on Wednesday, reports Bloomberg News.
"We deeply regret this situation and apologize to any consumers we have disappointed," the company said.
Other Kraft brands include Miracle Whip and Oscar Mayer.
