A prosecutor said Tuesday that an Ohio woman accused of decapitating her 3-month-old baby had been ordered to stay away from her child, ABC News reports according to the Associated Press.

A court ordered Deasia Watkins to stay away from her baby after she was hospitalized for psychiatric problems.

The baby was placed into the aunt's custody. On Monday, a 5-year-old at the aunt's house and other children found the baby's body on the kitchen counter, according to Hamilton County prosecutor Joe Deters.

Authorities say the aunt was asleep while the children in the house were waiting on a school bus. The 5-year-old child who saw the baby's body ran outside to get help from another relative who had dropped them off.

Deters said the aunt let the mother move in with them a week prior to the murder.

The 20-year-old mother was arrested and charged with aggravated murder after police found her in bed covered in blood.

The baby had a fractured arm and the knife used to kill the baby was placed in its hand, according to county coroner Dr. Lakshmi Sammarco.

"This is one of the most disturbing cases I have ever seen in my life," Deters said.

Sammarco added, "These are images that will be indelibly marked in my memory."

CBS affiliate WKRC reports that Watkins is currently under a psychiatric hold and her arraignment date has not been set.

The mother has not talked since being taken into custody and a prosecutor said he does not think he would seek the death penalty in the case.

"It was pretty clear to the officers involved that she is suffering from some serious mental issues," Deters said.

Local media outlets reported that Watkins was diagnosed with postpartum psychosis after a January incident that caused Hamilton County Job and Family Services to take custody of the baby.

"It looks like JFS did their job exactly how they should, but you don't have the resources to be in the house 24/7," Deters said.

The baby's father has not been located.
