Norwegian Soccer Wife's Post Birth Pictures Draw Criticism
Caroline Berg Eriksen is the wife of Norwegian soccer player , Lars-Kristian Eriksen, and a health reporter. As a naturally thin woman, she didn't gain a lot of weight through her pregnancy with daughter Neilia. Four days after giving birth to Neilia, Caroline posted a picture of her post baby bod on Instagram, and oh the outrage and the debate it has caused!
The infamous Instagram picture shows Berg Eriksen in a red bra and black panties. The caption of the picture reads "so empty and not even four days after birth"; obviously she was just trying to show off her amazingly flat toned belly and fit arms and legs. The picture is truly surreal as Eriksen just gave birth nearly 4 days ago and her body shows no signs of it. You first wonder if this is even real but seeing the next picture of Berg-Eriksen at 38-weeks of pregnancy, proves that it is. As a woman, a part of you feels hopeful and happy for Caroline but the other part wants to scream "Ugh No Fair!" Well, blogger Suzanne Aabel decided to express her outrage for the picture on her blog questioning "if she and Berg Eriksen were of the same species".
Aabel posted this in response to the picture, "As a 32 year old with a 4 year old son even and according to BMI-halva '22 pounds' overweight...I think: WHO ARE YOU TO POST THIS IMAGE? What do you want to say with this picture? Who are you talking to? What is the good purpose here? Why is this positive?" She also added "I feel fat because soccer lady has given birth". Suzanne Aabel works with teenage girls and says that it isn't a good example for girls who already struggle with body image, as they "look up to famous people". But many found Aabel's outrage irrelevant and more of a cry of jealousy. According to the Daily Mail, Caroline herself responded to Aabel's criticism saying, "I let out the picture because I'm proud of myself and my body for something as tough as a pregnancy/birth, and I think all mothers, regardless of the body shall be".
Caroline also received the support of other commenters fiering back at Aabel writing, "If you don't like the way you look do something about it and stop hating on others cause they make you feel bad about yourself. Give me a break. You're all pathetic!!!"...ouch. Though those words are harsh, they are true. Suzanne even admits that she was "the chubby girl" when she was younger and well that can explain the difference in body types here. Like one person posted on the picture "Life is unfair" we are not all going to be naturally thin or get back into shape four days after giving birth. What's also interesting is a doctors claim saying that "more pregnant women are putting on too much weight, which can lead to difficulties during pregnancy...reducing the weight gain makes it easier for the woman to endure the birth and period afterwards".
Ladies, be happy with your body, whatever shape it is! If you aren't, I must agree to do something about it. There are many healthy diets and exercise plans that can help you look the way you want and even more important, be healthy.
