Aaron Hernandez's cousin testified Tuesday that during a jailhouse conversation the former New England Patriots star swore he did not kill Odin L. Lloyd, reports the Boston Globe.

"He said he was innocent and that he didn't do it and that God would see [him] through," said Jennifer Mercado, Hernandez's cousin who testified under a grant of immunity.

Mercado told prosecutor William McCauley that Hernandez did not say where he was the night of Lloyd's murder, nor did he mention anything else about Lloyd.

During her testimony, Mercado repeatedly smiled at Hernandez and said she could not recall details of conversations with him, especially concerning her sister, Tanya Singleton.

McCauley showed phone records that Hernandez began using a new telephone number days after Lloyd's death, and that number contacted Mercado's phone repeatedly during that time.

Mercado testified that she did not remember any of those communications.

Prosecutors asked the Supreme Judicial Court on Tuesday to allow Hernandez friend Robert Paradis to testify about a .45-caliber pistol Hernandez allegedly possessed in California a couple months prior to the Lloyd murder.

Paradis is expected to testify that he felt a .45-caliber gun inside a dresser drawer that Hernandez used in California.

Superior Court Judge E. Susan Garsh, who is presiding over the trial, has deemed Paradis' testimony prejudicial and barred it.

Bristol District Attorney Thomas M. Quinn III is asking the full court to intervene.

The murder weapon has not been found. Paradis' testimony would establish that the defendant owned and controlled a weapon of the exact type used in Lloyd's shooting.

In court Monday, jurors heard a former bank teller testify that Hernandez wired $15,000 to Oscar Hernandez of Belle Glade, Florida, in April 2013. Oscar, who is not related to Hernandez, later shipped multiple guns and a Toyota Camry to Aaron's North Attleborough residence, according to court records.

One of the firearms, a .22-caliber Jimenez pistol, was found near Lloyd's murder scene in a North Attleborough industrial park, according to prosecutors and witnesses.

Hernandez has pleaded not guilty to arranging Lloyd's killing with the help of Ernest Wallace and Carlos Ortiz. Wallace and Ortiz have also pleaded not guilty. They are being tried separately.
