Miguel Cotto will make his first title defense on June 6 in New York, but the reigning World Boxing Council middleweight champion admitted that he is still undecided on who to face in his next fight.

Cotto, who has not fought since capturing the title with a knockout win against Sergio Martinez in June last year, said that his new promoter, Roc Nation Sports, is still finalizing the details of his next fight.

The Puerto Rican champion said that they are still considering several options for the June 6 fight, which is expected to be staged either at the Madison Square Garden or Barclays Center in Brooklyn.

"I signed a three fight deal with Roc Nation," Cotto told A los Golpes via BoxingScene. "We have a date of June 6 and right now we are evaluating [the options] and we'll see which is the best opponent for that date."

Cotto said that he will talk with trainer Freddie Roach about his options, but he expects to face a big-name fighter for his world title. While he did not mention names of possible opponents, Cotto is continuously being linked to a showdown with International Boxing Federation middleweight champion Cornelius Brundrage.

"I will speak with Freddie and we will choose the best name," Cotto said. "I do not know who it may be, but I expect it to be for the title. It all depends on how big the opponent and that will define whether this will be a pay-per-view or not."

Gennady Golovkin, the reigning World Boxing Association and International Boxing Organization middleweight champion who holds a perfect 32-0 record with 29 knockout victories, is also being linked to a showdown with the Caguas, Puerto Rico native.

However, Golovkin is out of the picture for the June 6 bout because the unbeaten world champion is scheduled to defend his titles against Willie Monroe on May 16 at the Forum in Inglewood, California.

But even if Golovkin wins against Monroe, promoter Tom Loeffler of K2 Promotions does not think the 34-year-old will face the Kazakh, who is the mandatory challenger to Cotto's WBC middleweight title. Loeffler said they tried to talk to Cotto's camp to arrange a fight, but they did not get any response.

"I don't have a good feeling with Cotto because we reached out to him for this fight in June and we really got no response," Loeffler told BoxingScene. "They are going to fight on June 6th and what they are going to do afterwards we don't know."
