Florida Teen Kills 6-Year-Old Brother and Commits Suicide Following Argument Over Food
Florida police are investigating a shocking murder-suicide in which a 13-year-old boy shot and killed his 6-year-old brother following a disagreement over food.
In addition to fatally shooting his little brother with a handgun, authorities say the 13-year-old Florida boy also shot and wounded his 16-year-old brother. He then committed suicide using the same gun.
The incident took place Wednesday evening at a mobile home park on the 16000 block of Bachmann Avenue in Hudson, where the shooter lived with his three brothers and his mom. However, the oldest brother, 18, was not home at the time and their mother was at work.
Apparently, the three siblings were at home eating dinner when an argument erupted over food, said the sheriff's office without disclosing any other details about what transpired.
After being shot, the 16-year-old injured teen called 911 at 6:19 p.m. to report the shooting. He was then taken to a hospital to be treated for a nonlife threatening injury.
"This is a nightmare when you hear about the ages of these boys," said Pasco County Sheriff Chris Nocco, reports CNN. "A 6-year-old that was probably playing in his room, an argument over food, and he lost his life."
"This is tough on us as law enforcement, this is tough on a community. And for the friends of these two boys, this is going to be tough tomorrow for them at school," Sheriff Chris Nocco told ABC Action News.
Nocco added that it is not yet clear who owned the gun.
Officials have not released the names of the family members involved in the shooting.
Community members, however, said they were in shock about the grisly crime and that the street is typically quiet.
"I don't understand it really. It doesn't make any sense," neighbor Stephanie Ridgeway told CNN affiliate WFLA.
