Nickelodeon 'School of Rock' TV Show & Cast: Learn Who is Starring in the Nick Series
Nickelodeon is bringing back Jack Black's "School of Rock," but in a different format. The network will debut a "School of Rock" TV series based on the 2003 film, according to Variety.
Starring in the "School of Rock" series will be Ricardo Hurtado, Lance Lim, Aidan Miner, Jade Pettyjohn and Breanna Yde. They will play the students in the show. Tony Cavalero will play the musician-turned-teacher Dewey.
Dewey is inspired by Black's character in the film. He becomes the most unique and well-liked teacher that the students ever had.
Dewey has unconventional ways of teaching the students, and though he does not have the knowledge or requirements to be a teacher, he is able to use rock 'n' roll to teach the children. Of course, Dewey was using the students' musical gifts to get back at his old band, which he was kicked out of.
Hurtado will play Freddy, a new kid that brings some fresh thinking and rebellious ways to the school. Freddy is a cool student who can relate to Dewey. He encourages the class to take some risks and have fun with their new teacher.
Lim will play Zack, a reserved student with demanding parents. He turns out to be the class band's electric guitarist and comes out of his shell. He is scared of breaking the rules, but he is appreciative of the independence that Dewey allows.
Miner plays Lawrence in the show. Lawrence is a nerdy, tech kid but winds up being the band's confident keyboardist.
Pettyjohn will play Summer. This character is an overachiever who is very organized. She does not want to play the tambourine, and she ends up becoming the band's manager because of her organizational skills. Summer also has a crush on Freddy.
Yde will play Tomika. Tomika is the tomboy in the class and also the band's bass player. She would rather ride her skateboard than sing. She quickly learns that she is a talented guitarist and singer. Tomika is best friends with Summer.
The show has been given a 13-episode order. The executive producers will be Jim and Steve Armogida. The original movie's director, Richard Linklater, will return to direct the show.
