Got a feeling that today is your lucky day? Then you might want to buy a Mega Millions ticket some time before the draw entry closes at 10:45 p.m. ET, 15 minutes before the lottery's magic numbers will be determined tonight.

The jackpot for the March 27 drawing stands at $15 million, though the winner will only take home about $9 million if he opts -- as most do -- for an immediate lump-sum payout. Otherwise, the total prize is handed over in annual installments during a 29-year period. But before you agonize over the decision, you might want to remind yourself that your chances of winning the jackpot in the first place are about 1 in 259 million.

Mega Millions drawings take place every Tuesday and Friday at the studios of WSB-TV, Atlanta's ABC affiliate. Tickets to the game are sold in 43 states, the District of Columbia and the U.S. Virgin Islands -- a total of 45 jurisdictions. And while hitting the jackpot is a true feat, the odds of winning any prize are much better at about 1 in 15.

The lottery's winning numbers from the last drawing on March 24 were 2, 23, 32, 45 and 55; the Mega Ball number was 12; and the "Megaplier" was 2, according to the game's official website. The estimated jackpot had been $59 million, and one very lucky player managed to take home that nifty nest egg, MLive noted.

The winning ticket was sold in the heart of New York City -- at World Books, just steps from Penn Station -- Mega Millions revealed. Wednesday's drawing was the seventh since another ticket holder from the same state had won $127 million on Feb. 27.

The February champion, Tammy Pratt, decided to go with the lump-sum option and took home $81.6 million, or approximately $54 million after taxes, according to the (Middletown, New York) Times Herald-Record.
