Kendrick Lamar is engaged to his high school sweetheart.

Appearing on the Breakfast Club radio show, Lamar confirmed his pending nuptials, telling the host of the show, "Yeah, definitely. I'm loyal to the soil."

Rumors of the "i" rapper's plans to wed his girlfriend of 10 years and high school sweetheart, Whitney Alford, have been circulating since she was recently spotted at a greeting party for him in Compton wearing "a massive rock on her left finger," according to Madame Noir.

Lamar later told Breakfast Club hosts, "At the end of the day, you want to always have real people around you. Period. Everybody that's been around me has been around me since day one. People that been by your side, you're supposed to honor that."

Up until now, the 27-year-old hip hop star has been highly private about his personal life, but this time around he hinted he felt the need to share with the world what his thinking is about such a life-changing decision.

"I wouldn't even call her my girl," he told Billboard Magazine earlier this year. "That's my best friend. I don't even like the term that society has put in the world as far as being a companion – she's somebody I can tell my fears to."

Back then, Lamar also spoke with the publication about what he sees as his still evolving style as a rapper.

Instead of rapping, Lamar says he writes. This is why his songs are usually so detailed. He is trying to move past "just a 16-bar verse" and more about telling a story.

Late last year, "i," the first single off Lamar's latest album, peaked at No. 30 on the Billboard 100. The song also earned him Grammy nominations for best rap song and best rap performance.

In 2014, Lamar was nominated for seven Grammys, including nods for Best New Artist, Album of the Year and Best Rap Song.
