Houston Texans star receiver Andre Johnson is making sure to spread the wealth this holiday season.

Johnson purchased more than $17,000 in toys for children at Toys 'R' Us as part of his annual tradition of going to the store and buying the kids toys.

According to Deadspin, the toys are for a dozen children who are in Child Protective Services.

"It's the holiday season," Johnson said. "It's time for giving. People that know me know I have a big heart and I like to give back and help people out. That's what I do it."

The NFL star spent even more last year when he purchased more than $19,000 worth of toys.

"I remember times where I wasn't able to get things that I wanted," Johnson said, according to the Texans website. "It just gives them a chance to go through the store and get whatever they want. They don't have to ask anybody for it. Whatever they have on their Christmas list they can pick up."

Johnson also said that he has been very happy with the way the kids pick out their gifts as he often sees them purchasing something for their brothers and sisters.

"The kids have done that every year," Johnson said. "That's big of them. That just shows there [sic] in a blessed situation to come and get whatever they want, and they're not just thinking of themselves. That's a great deed by them."

Johnson had a big game last week when he notched 13 catches for 154 yards, but had no touchdowns yet again. Johnson has five touchdown catches this year. The Texans have been a major disappointment this season after winning division titles for two consecutive seasons. The team fired its head coach, Gary Kubiak, after the bad start. If Houston loses the remaining three games on the schedule this season, the team will get the first overall pick in the NFL Draft.
