Manny Pacquiao vs Floyd Mayweather Fight is a Battle of Good Against Evil, Says Freddie Roach
Hall of Fame trainer Freddie Roach said that the upcoming showdown between Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Jr. on May 2 at MGM Grand in Las Vegas will be a battle of good against evil.
Roach told USA Today that Pacquiao, who holds a perfect 57-5-2 record with 38 knockout victories, said he is very motivated to win against Mayweather because he dislikes the reigning pound-for-pound king.
"It is really hard to say these things in public, but I know Mayweather is a bad guy," Roach said. "I see the fight as good against evil. I have even thought about bringing a couple of the metro cops from Vegas in to tell Manny how many times Mayweather has been arrested and how bad of a guy he is, but I decided I can't go that far."
Pacquiao, the reigning World Boxing Organization welterweight champion, is against domestic violence, which is the reason why he dislikes Mayweather and is very motivated to win as shown by his intensity in his preparation for the upcoming fight.
Mayweather, who holds a perfect 47-0 record with 26 knockout wins, was linked to several domestic violence controversies earlier in his career. The unbeaten champion even spent two months in prison for domestic attack against Josie Harris, who is the mother of three of his four children.
According to Roach, Pacquiao's deep dislike of Mayweather will be enough for the Filipino boxing icon to show his killer instinct again in the biggest fight of his boxing career.
"Manny is really against domestic violence," Roach added. "It is a big issue maybe in the Philippines for him and being a congressman he can control some of that stuff. That is a big plus for me that Manny does not like the guy, I think the killer instinct is going to come back a lot faster."
Aside from the domestic violence issue, Roach previously said that he never saw Pacquiao dislike any opponent before, but he knows the 36-year-old has an axe to grind against the Grand Rapids native.
Mayweather, the reigning World Boxing Council and World Boxing Association welterweight champion, previously uttered racist remarks, calling Pacquiao a "little yellow chump" before. Pacquiao also sued Mayweather and his camp in court for accusing him of using performance-enhancing drugs.
