In a highly anticipated two-hour 20/20 special, Bruce Jenner sits down with journalist Diane Sawyer to introduce himself as a female and bid farewell to his male persona, sources connected to the production told TMZ.

The Olympic gold medalist and reality TV star is expected to address reports that he is undergoing a gender transformation during the interview with Sawyer. He will "present himself" as a woman publicly for the first time, according to TMZ. But if fans are looking for Jenner to be dressed as a woman, he won't be. Sources say the interview is not about a new feminine look -- it's about his journey through gender reassignment.

Sources told TMZ that Jenner has no plans to reveal his new female name.

Jenner and Sawyer did many interviews over a period of time for the 20/20 special, according to TMZ. In one segment, Jenner chronicles his life from age 5, when he claims to have first identified as a woman. He also describes the difficulties he's endured in life living as a man but not feeling like a woman. He spends a great amount of time talking about how his decision to have a sex change has affected his family.

Sources told TMZ the most compelling moments of the interview are when Jenner talks about how day-to-day things will change in his life once the sex change is complete.

The "Keeping Up with the Kardashians" star is reportedly well aware of people who don't understand gender reassignment or have contempt for it. He considers the interview to a way to free himself and educate the public at the same time.

In February, Jenner revealed to his ex-wife, Kris Jenner, and family that he was becoming a woman. While most of the family accepts him as transgender, Kris is reportedly unhappy about it.

The 65-year-old has had his Adam's Apple shaved, hormone therapy and breast surgery as he transitions into a woman. Aside from the treatments and surgical procedures he has endured to become female, the 20/20 interview will undoubtedly be the most significant event connected to his sex change.

The Jenner and Sawyer interview airs Friday, April 24, at 9 p.m. ET on ABC.
