Spanish-Language cable network NBC Universo is launching a Mexican show called "Cronica de Castas," according to Variety.

The new show will feature the popular star Daniel Gimenez Cacho as director in a nine-episode series starting April 19.

"Cronica de Castas," which means "Chronicle of Class" in English, has already stirred popular interest given Cacho's fan base. The show takes place in the Tepito black market of Mexico City.

"Just as the series stirred deep emotions of many in Mexico, we expect Latinos here in the U.S. will also be moved by its great storytelling, polarizing characters and arresting moments," said Margie Moreno, NBC Universo's VP of programming.

"Cronica de Castas" is a co-production of Canal Once Mexico and Ojo De Hacha Prods.

The fictional mini-series will be available across many platforms including online, mobile devices and video on demand, according to TV By the NumbersA diverse set of actors are featured on the series, including Nailea Norvind, Harold Torres and award-winning Spanish actress Angela Molina.

Nothing is as it seems in "Cronica de Castas" as different characters are involved in events revolving around the local Mexico City Hotel Galicia.

The show explores different backgrounds like the girl who moves from Spain to hide a dark past and the woman who moves to Tepito to escape an abusive home.

Characters are faced with acts of racism, social class issues and prejudices as they try to navigate their way through this new place.

"NBC UNIVERSO has promised U.S. Latinos exclusive, edgy programming with high-quality production, and Crónica de Castas is a compelling series that delivers on that commitment," Moreno said.

Tune into NBC Universo Sundays at 10 p.m. ET to view the lives of the many characters in Tepito. Viewers can also download the NBC UNIVERSO NOW app on their phones to watch "Cronica de Castas."
