After the dust settled following the tragic death of Paul Walker, executives at the head of Fast & Furious 7 were scrambling to figure out what to do next.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, executives are looking to piece together already-shot footage of the yet-to-be released film instead of starting from scratch. THR also said that a knowledgeable source informed them that the studio has put $150 million into the film.

As mentioned by the LA Times, Universal released a statement in support of Walker's family and said that things will be on hold.

"Right now, all of us at Universal are dedicated to providing support to Paul's immediate family and our extended 'Fast & Furious' family of cast, crew and filmmakers," the studio said. "At this time we feel it is our responsibility to shut down production on 'Fast & Furious 7' for a period of time so we can assess all options available to move forward with the franchise."

The task to continue the film with already-shot footage could be challenging considering that a source told The Hollywood Reporter that "Almost exactly half of his role was done." That may not seem like enough but it depends on what the executives determine in the time leading up to 2014.

The publication also said that a January start date would be the goal as far as picking things back up if they continue with the existing story.

Universal released a statement following the news of Walker's death.

"All of us at Universal are heartbroken. Paul was truly one of the most beloved and respected members of our studio family for 14 years, and this loss is devastating to us, to everyone involved with the FAST AND FURIOUS films, and to countless fans. We send our deepest and most sincere condolences to Paul's family."
