One Direction, Tours, Songs & News Update 2015: Aaron Carter, O-Town's Ashley Parker Angel Want to Replace Zayn Malik [Watch]
Following Zayn Malik's sudden departure from One Direction, a couple of former pop stars have recently expressed their interest to join the chart-topping mega-band.
Ashley Parker Angel, a 33-year-old singer who rose to fame with boyband O-Town back in 2000, took to his Instagram account on April 6 to post a short video clip of him singing 1D's hit "Night Changes."
"Just in case @onedirection decides they want the token older brother member," he wrote the following caption with the hashtags #fakeaudition and #15secondcover.
Angel is not the only one who wants to be part of the "Steal My Girl" hitmakers, as Aaron Carter tweeted on March 25:
i would join one direction but i think i always preferred being a solo artist — Aaron Carter (@aaroncarter) March 25, 2015
Meanwhile, One Direction is officially continuing onwards as a foursome, cutting Malik out of the video and poster for its "On the Road Again" tour.
The remaining members recently admitted that performing without Malik really hurt at first.
"We're gutted that Zayn chose to leave," Liam Payne told The Sun.
Harry Styles then assured fans that the group would not be splitting anytime soon, since they are currently working on their next project.
"It's very exciting to be working on our fifth album," he said. "It shows how incredible the fans have been."
Louis Tomlinson also promised Directioners that the band is "going to work harder than ever to deliver the best album we've ever made for you guys."
In addition, 1D mentor Simon Cowell was asked what he thinks about Malik's solo career move during an interview with Sugarscape.
"He's a fantastic singer. Um, look, he's got to get his head together a little bit," he said before adding, "He needs some time on his own, as he said, to be a normal 22-year-old, which he's gonna have."
