Sprint Wireless Phone Plan: Direct 2 You Program Allows Users to Upgrade at Home
Sprint is making it even easier for customers to upgrade to the latest devices.
Through a program called Direct 2 You, Sprint will allow customers to upgrade their phones from home or their office and have a Sprint representative deliver and activate the phone to them.
Starting Monday, customers will be able to utilize the service in Kansas City. It will expand to Chicago and Miami next week, and more cities throughout the year. Sprint says by the end of the year, 5,000 Direct 2 You cars will be out on the road.
Sprint customers who are ready and eligible for an upgrade will receive a text message asking them to call a number. The customer then picks out the phone they want and agrees on a meeting place and time with the Sprint Direct 2 You representative. The representative will then meet the customer and set up their new phone, transfer their contacts and personalize it for the customer. Old phones can be given to the Sprint representative for recycling.
Sprint is trying to catch up with the top two leading wireless providers Verizon and AT&T. They have struggled to hold onto customers lately.
Currently holding onto the third place position for wireless carriers, Sprint is seeing T-Mobile's efforts to become even more competitive. Last month, T-Mobile said it would pay off any installment or leasing payments due on phone equipment from their competitors.
In 2014, Sprint saw an increase in subscribers leaving the company for its competitors. However, in February, Sprint announced it was able to add almost 900,000 customers in the fourth quarter of 2014.
Sprint credits the increase in customers to its new CEO, Marcelo Claure. Claure has proven he is ready to fight his competitors and has launched programs to help.
The "Cut Your Bill In Half" promotion has attracted AT&T and Verizon customers who are upset with their high bills. Sprint offered to slash customer bills if the customer switched from the two companies. The ad campaign showed customers using swords and chainsaws to destroy their AT&T and Verizon bills. Sprint has also recently offered better discounts and more data to customers.
Sprint's Direct 2 You program aims to be convenient for customers who do not wish to go into the store to buy a phone and be tasked with trying to get all the data off their old phones and onto the new phone. The program is made to bring the store experience to the customer.
