Apple iOS 8.4 Beta Rumors, News & Update: Newly Released Beta Features Revamped Music app
A revamped Music app will be part of of Apple's iOS 8.4, a newly released beta version of the operating system confirmed, according to 9to5Mac.
The software features a "beautiful new design," the website judged; among other things, it lets you personalize playlists by adding your own image and description and shows you "stunning pictures of your favorite artists."
The app keeps things up-to-date by displaying albums and playlists users have recently added at the top of their libraries. It also includes an "Up Next" icon that allows them to find out which songs will play next -- and reorder, add or skip tunes to their liking.
"Overall, it seems that the updated music app is much more streamlined and intuitive than previous incarnations," BGR judged. And the new software will likely "form the backbone" for the Beats music streaming service, whose relaunch Apple has recently announced, the website added.
Critics have been especially impressed with Music's new "MiniPlayer," which allows users to see what is playing -- and to control playback options -- while they are in the midst of browsing their music collection, 9to5Mac detailed.
It is "a key feature to Apple's new Music, allowing quick access to the 'Now Playing' pane and music transport controls," AppleInsider noted. Whether or not you will enjoy this option, however, has a lot to do with the Apple device you are using, the publication cautioned.
"The 'MiniPlayer' feels bit cramped on an iPhone 5s," AppleInsider said, "but makes good use screen real estate on the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus." On the iPad, meanwhile, an additional split-screen interface will be available, according to 9to5Mac.
The public release of iOS 8.4 is still at least a few months away, however, and a few more beta versions will likely be offered to smooth out potential issues, AppleInsider said. Typically, the California company releases its new operating systems at or before its annual developer conference, WWDC, which in the past has taken place in San Francisco in early June; so far, thus, no final date has been set for the iOS 8.4 launch.
