Days after being taken into custody in Tennessee on felony drug charges after police found guns and drugs on his tour bus, rap star Nelly insists he will now be "hand-picking" all those granted access passes to his vehicle.

"I feel the need to take responsibility for my choices in needing to be more aware of all the people I associate with and allow onto my property," he told TMZ.

The website adds as many as 15 to 20 people were on the bus when officers recently pulled it over and immediately smelled whiffs of marijuana. The "Hot in Herre" singer was formally charged with possession of methamphetamine and marijuana. His lawyer claims the so-called methamphetamines were actually ecstasy.

"While my instinct of course, is to be accessible to my friends, fans and acquaintances, the last thing I would want to do is compromise the respect and admiration of my friends, family and fans," Nelly added.

According to KSDK TV, in Nelly's hometown of St. Louis, police reportedly found five colored crystal type rocks that tested positive for meth and a small amount of marijuana on the Prevost coach. The handguns recovered included a gold-plated 50-caliber Desert Eagle pistol, a 45-caliber Tarus pistol and a 500 Smith & Wesson Magnum.

Nelly has since been released on bond.

"Nelly was one of several individuals that was on a tour bus that was stopped and searched while traveling through Tennessee," said Nelly's attorney, Scott Rosenblum, in a statement released through his representatives.

"In fact, there had been 15-20 people that had access to the bus prior to the stop. Allegedly, a small quantity of contraband (MDMA aka Molly or Ecstasy) was discovered during the routine search. We are extremely confident that when the facts come out, Nelly will not be associated with the contraband that was allegedly discovered," Rosenblum continued.

The bus was on its way to St. Louis when it was stopped.
