Fox 'Empire' Season 2 Cast, News & Spoilers: Raven-Symoné to Return, Taraji P. Henson Wants Tyrese as Love Interest
In its first season, the Fox hip hop centered series “Empire” brought the sometimes obscure Terrence Howard and the hitherto under-appreciated Taraji P. Henson to a massive audience, in manipulation-heavy episodes involving money and family drama in the entertainment business.
The show also did a good job of bringing in a host of well-received cameos by celebrities such as Naomi Campbell, Jennifer Hudson and Courtney Love.
One of the most talked-about guest-starring roles was the character of Olivia Lyon, played by former ”Cosby Show” star Raven-Symoné.
The 29-year-old actress of “That’s So Raven” fame played Jamal's (Jussie Smollett) ex-wife and the mother of a girl allegedly fathered by "black sheep" of the Lyon flock.
Smollett, as revealed in E! Online, has stated that the the storyline of Olivia and her child will go on in the coming season.
Regarding the future for of her character, Cookie, Taraji P. Henson told the celebrity news source that she was already casting a future love interest. "I am rooting for Tyrese because I think we will actually break the Internet if that happens" said the actress who just recently shared some screen time with The Cookie Monster when she hosted "Saturday Night Live."
Receiving a mountain of praise, the only real complaint about “Empire” has come from Terrence Howard, who thinks the show should liberally use the N-word.
As reported in TV Guide, Raven-Symoné has brought up the nuances involved in sprinkling the series with the racial slur in an E! News interview, saying, "It's hard, because people use it in their everyday language behind the scenes all day, and some shows will air it and some shows won't."
"And there's a lot of pain connected to it, but then there's a lot of brotherly love connected to it, and I feel like you shouldn't say a word you wouldn't let anybody else use,” conceded the young actress.
