The season finale of "New Girl", titled "Clean Break," could propel Jess (Zooey Deschanel) and Nick (Jake Johnson) back to a familiar place and time.

One week after Jess branded herself a "love doctor" in an episode entitled "Panty Gate," Spoilers Guide reports at least part of the season finale will be devoted to the one-time couple reminiscing about their "sex mug" and breathlessly wondering if they might still have feelings for one another.

Airing May 5, the episode also witnesses Ernie "Coach" Tagliaboo (Damon Wayans Jr.) leaving the loft for the final time following a "life-changing" decision. Wayans Jr. will not be returning to the show next season.

All the drama over the last few episodes seems to be having some effect on Schmidt (Max Greenfield), who is touted as ready to "get rid of his non-essentials" only to come to the realization of what is truly important to him. This comes on the heels of him recently "taking the fall for Fawn in a political scandal."

According to TV Line, Fox execs recently announced the show has been greenlighted for a fifth season and production has already started. Deschanel, 35, was nominated for a People's Choice Favorite Comedic TV Actress Award this year, along with Amy Poehler, Kaley Cuoco-Sweeting, Melissa McCarthy and Sofia Vergara.

The Hollywood Reporter also recently reported Fred Armisen has been inked to guest-star in at least one episode of the new season. Armisen is set to star as a new temporary roommate at the loft, presumably moving into the space left by Coach's departure. Stephen Rannazzisi and Ally Maki are also expected to guest star, with Rannazzisi cast as a "frenemy of both men from college."

Meaghan Rath is slated to guest star in the May 5 episode as May.
