'The Good Wife' Season 6 Episode 20 Spoilers: Alicia is Forced to Resign as State Attorney Due to a Voter Fraud Conspiracy in 'The Deconstruction' [Watch]
The next episode of "The Good Wife" will be intense as Alicia Florrick will be forced to resign from her new position as State Attorney due to a conspiracy involving voter fraud.
Earlier this season, Alicia won the State's Attorney race after a long and tedious election campaign. However, she was then accused of voter fraud and forced to undergo a search to clear her name.
Although it became clear that Alicia did not steal the election, she was still asked to step down by the Democratic Party in order to save the majority in the state senate election. Alicia tried to fight back, but the lawyer who was supposed to help her with the elections board threw her under the bus.
Meanwhile, Kalinda confessed to faking evidence in order to clear Cary's name from drug charges. However, that put Diane's job and reputation in jeopardy since she presented that evidence in court.
In a preview of Sunday's new episode, which is entitled "The Deconstruction," Alicia's gives an emotional resignation speech while thanking her husband for sticking by her side. However, the question remains as to whether or not she will go back to her law firm.
During a recent interview with TVLine, executive producer Robert King opened about Alicia and Peter's marriage in wake of the Democratic Party's voter fraud conspiracy.
"What was very clarifying was that scene when Alicia and Peter say they're done with arguing... [Peter] starts getting this look in his eyes and [essentially] saying, 'Let's f--k,' and then Alicia is saying, 'No, no, no, no, that's not what this is about,'" said King, recalling a scene from Episode 18.
"They wind up just sitting there and drinking together. They're championing detente in a very fraught relationship just because of exhaustion. At a certain point the human body has a great and strange ability to numb all the pain, and that's where Alicia and Peter tend to go now."
Nevertheless, now that they are facing a new outside threat, "They aid, support and give strength to each other," he says. "Whether that goes deeper is a bigger question."
Executie producer Michelle King also added that "Whether Alicia and Peter are living under the same roof or not, there is something very real there. We've seen a very deep connection between these two people throughout the series."
E! News also teased that fans should not expect to see Diane Lockhart's husband, played by Gary Cole, until next year.
"I usually show up there once a year. I made my visit this year and I assume they'll be back, you never know, but it seems like they'll be back for another year," said Cole. "So hopefully I'll visit my marriage once."
According to CarterMatt, the synopsis for the next episode, "The Deconstruction," reads as follows:
"Alicia faces an uncertain future when she is forced to resign as State's Attorney in the wake of a voter fraud scandal. Also, R.D. (Oliver Platt) hires Diane and Cary to argue against two ultra-conservative lawyers for a test case involving mandatory minimum sentencing."
Season 6, Episode 20 of "The Good Wife," "The Deconstruction," will air on Sunday, April 26, at 9 p.m. on CBS.
