Developers could delay in releasing a jailbreak for iOS until iOS 8.4 is released. The current version of iOS is iOS 8.3 and developers fear that if they release a jailbreak for it, Apple will use security patches to make the jailbreak useless, GottaBe Mobile reports. 

Stefen Esser, a well-known jailbreak developer has already been able to jailbreak iOS 8.4. Esser says his jailbreak is just a "proof of concept" that iOS 8.4 can be jailbreaked and he does not plan on releasing it to the public.

Earlier this month, Apple released iOS 8.3 which included bug fixes, new emojis, wireless CarPlay support and iCloud Photo Library. Since iOS 8.4 is likely coming out in a couple of months, developers hoping to create a jailbreak may wait until it comes out instead of jailbreaking iOS 8.3.

The release of iOS 8.1.3 earlier this year created a patch to make the TaiG iOS 8 jailbreak useless. This patch carried over to iOS 8.3. On a support page Apple lists the TaiG jailbreak as the source for a security vulnerability. Apple patched up this security vulnerability with iOS 8.1.3. The patch also works for iOS 8.3.

Developers do not want to release a jailbreak for iOS 8.3 only to have Apple release a patch to make it useless. That would mean a jailbreak would only work for a couple of months.

If developers decide to wait and release their next jailbreak for iOS 8.4 it will last much longer because the update to iOS 8.4 is the last major update that Apple has planned until iOS 9 is introduced, likely in September.

It would be a good idea for jailbreak developers to wait so that those who decide to jailbreak their iOS devices can have plenty of time to experiment with the features before Apple finds a way to shut it down.

Apple did a good job with security patches for iOS 8.3. Jailbreak developer MuscleNerd noted that there were 39 security bugs that were fixed in the iOS 8.3 release. He said that this is one of the biggest updates to security in an iOS update.

Jailbreak developers always seem to find a vulnerability in the iOS operating system, but it seems Apple is focusing on making its operating system even more secure with each release.
