The OnePlus One Review Summary: Price, Specs, Pros and Cons You Need to Know; Does It Meet Smartphone Users Needs?
The OnePlus One packs a ton of features into a $299 unlocked, without a contract smartphone. The Chinese company OnePlus aims to create a smartphone that "never settles" and meets the needs of all smartphone users, according to Engadget.
OnePlus is selling the One for just $299 because the company does not plan to make any money right away. Instead, the startup company wants to show it is capable of creating a smartphone that does not cut any corners.
The One is a larger smartphone with a 5.5 inch screen. It is 1.7mm taller and 0.6mm thicker than the Samsung Galaxy Note 3, so it is a rather bulky smartphone. It is narrower by four millimeters and six grams lighter than the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 though. The One's arched back makes it more comfortable resting in a hand.
The One has a 1080p IPS LCD display that has a pixel density of 401 ppi. The colors and viewing angles are comparable to premium smartphones like the Samsung Galaxy S5 and the HTC One M8. The display is also made with Gorilla Glass 3, which prevents scratches.
Featuring a 13 megapixel camera, the One will take adequate pictures. It also includes a dual-LED flash. The front-facing camera for self-portraits is an excellent 5 MP, which beats the Nexus 5's front-facing camera that is only 1.3 MP.
The One has an extremely fast processor clocking in at 2.45 GHz using the quad-core Snapdragon 801. It will also come with 3 GB of RAM. This means fast loading times, no lagging and great performance from the smartphone. To save on battery, users can customize how much performance can be exerted from the One.
Speaking of battery, the One's battery life is impressive. The One uses a 3100 mAh non-removable battery that averages about 10 hours of life in tests.
Internal storage for the One starts at just 16 GB. For $50 more, a 64 GB model can be purchased. The One does not have a microSD storage slot so it may be worth purchasing the 64 GB model.
The features included in the OnePlus One smartphone are very impressive for its price. Similar smartphones like the HTC One M8 and Galaxy S5 can cost twice as much and they are usually not unlocked and require a contract.
