Konami announced Monday that it will continue to develop the Silent Hill video game series, but Silent Hills, specifically, has been canceled, reports Eurogamer.

The Japanese company said its contract period with "The Walking Dead" actor Norman Reedus, who is involved in the project, has "expired."

The company also said the playable teaser for the game, P.T., is no longer available on PlayStation Network because "the distribution period has expired."

Silent Hills, the interactive horror game unveiled during Sony's Gamescom 2014 press conference, received considerable hype from the P.T. teaser that was released last summer. The teaser promoted the Silent Hill game, revealing that "Hellboy" filmmaker Guillermo del Toro, Metal Gear Solid creator Hideo Kojima and Reedus were involved in the project.

On April 25, photo journalist Matt Hackney tweeted that del Toro made the revelation at the San Francisco International Film Festival. When asked about Silent Hills, del Toro reportedly said, "It's not gonna happen, and that breaks my greasy heart."

Reedus tweeted on April 26 that the game is canceled, adding he is "super bummed about this was really looking forward to it. Hopefully it'll come back around. Sorry everyone."

While Konami stated its reasons for canning the project to Eurogamer, it is worth mentioning that Kojima is in the midst of parting ways with Konami, and it isn't pretty. The rift between Kojima Productions and Konami has led to the game designer leaving the company after Metal Gear Solid 5 is completed.

Konami will continue the Silent Hill series and Metal Gear Solid games without Kojima, according to Eurogamer.

If you own a PlayStation 4 and haven't played P.T., you might want to do so before it is removed from the PlayStation Store on April 29. The download is free. The game is a lot of fun -- that is, if your idea of fun is being terrified.
