New York and Chicago residents will now be able to use Uber to order food instead of ordering a ride.

UberEats will offer food delivery from popular restaurants to people in New York and Chicago from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. weekdays, according to CNet

Uber tested out UberEats in Barcelona, Spain and Los Angeles before bringing it to New York and Chicago this week, according to the Uber Blog.

"Now people with the Uber app in all four cities can get food from the most popular, iconic restaurants delivered within minutes," Uber said.

Uber is not the only tech company to offer a food on-demand service through an app though. A taxi app called GetTaxi will change its name to Gett in July and will start offering food delivery services. Apps like GrubHub, Seamless and Eat24 also offer similar food delivery service.

Ordering a meal through the Uber app will work just like ordering a ride, customers will use the app. Uber said it changes the menu daily, so there is plenty of variety. Different restaurants will participate on different days. Prices for lunch range from $9 to $15.

UberEats will only work when a user is in an area that offers the service. Uber will ask for the user's location and which items they would like to order. Then, Uber promises to get the meal to users in a matter of minutes. The delivery fee is added to the order and it ranges from $3 to $4.

A drawback to the UberEats program is that meals cannot be customized as they are pre-arranged. That means no substitutions or changes.

Los Angeles, one of the test cities for UberEats, also offers dinner hours during the week and a brunch option on weekends.

In a blog post, Uber said that customers have responded positively to the UberEats program. More restaurants have joined the program in Los Angeles and the delivery times have been 10 minutes or less.
