This weekend the summer movie season continues with a female driven film and a Sundance buddy comedy.

Both films will compete against the blockbuster hit "The Avengers", but are unlikely to top the Marvel superhero movie.

"Hot Pursuit"

Sofia Vergara is back in cinemas alongside Reese Witherspoon, who was recently nominated for Best Actress for work in "Wild." The film, directed by Anne Fletcher, tells the story of an uptight and by-the-book cop who tries to protect the outgoing widow of a drug boss as they race through Texas pursued by crooked cops and murderous gunmen. The film has received a strong marketing push and will most likely attract female audiences, especially since the current marketplace lacks a single female driven film. Warner Bros. is opening the film in 2,700 theaters and analysts predict the movie could open as high $20 million.

"The D Train"

IFC Films is opening the buddy comedy starring Jack Black and James Marsden. The film, which premiered at Sundance, tells the story of the head of a high school reunion committee who travels to Los Angeles to track down the most popular guy from his graduating class and convince him to go to the reunion. The film has scored mixed reviews but IFC has given the movie a strong marketing push. After acquiring "The D Train" at Sundance, IFC decided to skip a VOD release. As a result, the film is expected to open in wide release. This is unusual for the small distributor, which usually opens its film on VOD and in theaters at the same time. IFC Films hopes to obtain the same success as last year's "Boyhood," which became the company's second highest grossing film of all time.

"Saint Laurent"

Almost a year after its world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival, the biopic directed by Bertrand Bonello will open in limited release. Sony Pictures Classics is releasing the film, which chronicles Yves Saint Laurent's life from 1967 to 1976, during which time the famed fashion designer was at the peak of his career. The movie is the second Yves Saint Laurent film in two years, but this version has obtained better reviews and more buzz. Starring Gaspard Ulliel and Jeremie Renier, the movie was France's submission for the Academy Awards last year and was also nominated for the Cesar awards. "Saint Laurent" is expected to open in New York and Los Angeles and will later expand.

"Maggie"

Starring Arnold Schwarzenegger and Abigail Breslin, this horror thriller tells the story of a teenage girl in the Midwest who becomes infected by an outbreak of a disease that slowly turns the infected into cannibalistic zombies. During her transformation, her loving father stays by her side. The movie premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival before being acquired by Roadside Attractions. Reviews have been mixed and appeal is low. While Schwarzenegger has a lot of fans, this film is likely to have a short theatrical run.

Other films in release this week include Focus Features' "5 Flights Up," Tribeca Film's "I am Big Bird," and Cohen Media Group's "In the Name of the Daughter."

Magnolia will also release "Skin Trade," while IFC will also unveil "The Seven Five." GVN Releasing has "Sister Code" while Aspiration Media has "Noble" and Strasson Group has "WARx2."

All these films will open with "Avengers: Age of Ultron" still in theaters. However, none of them are likely to dethrone the Marvel film. Meanwhile "Ex Machina," "The Age of Adaline" and "Furious 7" will continue their theatrical runs. IFC Films will continue to expand "Clouds of SIls Maria" while Sony Pictures Classics will continue expanding the Oscar nominee "The Salt of the Earth."
