"The Mindy Project," which has accumulated hundreds of thousands of fans since it debuted in September 2012, has been canceled by Fox Network after three seasons, reports Variety.

What makes matters worse is that the Season 3 finale of Mindy Kaling's comedy sitcom closed with a cliffhanger: Danny switched his flight destination from Texas to India and arrived on her parents' doorstep.

"I'm Danny Castellano, and I'm in love with your daughter," she said.

Also, fans have yet to meet Danny and Mindy's baby.

There is good news. The Hollywood Reporter reports that though Fox has passed on the critically acclaimed series for a fourth season, producer NBC Universal has struck a deal with Hulu for a multiple-season renewal.

That will come as welcome news to the show's star and creator who recently talked with E! News about the series.

"I'm so proud of the show," Kaling told E! News. "There's nothing really that I would do differently in the way that we've built the those in the last couple of years, and I love our relationship with Fox and I would love for it to just continue."

Kaling also gushed about the show's creative team.

"I would love for that to be the legacy, that it was a breeding ground for insane talent and for people to watch it and be like, 'This was a great love story over the course of how ever many seasons for the first time between two realistic people falling in love, that didn't shy away from stuff that was real that was a on network.' I don't know that we're going to see that many more of those kind of shows on networks," she said.

On Wednesday, Kaling shared a video on Instagram and Twitter following news of the cancellation. The video clip sent devoted viewers buzzing on social media with hopefulness.

In the video, there is a view of evergreen foliage before the camera pans to pause on Kaling's face as she gives a wink and smirks.

"Hey guys, I'm in Montana, is anything happening in LA?" the actress captioned the brief video clip, adding the hashtag #themindyproject.

"It's definitely not over!" an Instagram follower commented.
