Disney ‘Frozen 2' Movie Sequel, Cast & Release Date Rumors: Creator Says Only the Ending Has Been Decided So Far
Chris Buck is realizing improving on perfection can be challenging.
Having already created the top-grossing animated film in history with "Frozen," the Oscar-winning animator, screenwriter and director recently admitted to ABC there's still much to figure out when putting together the sequel.
"We have lots of things to figure out but at least we know where we are going," he said, adding that thus far only the ending for the film has been settled on.
Walt Disney executives can only hope that the sequel comes to be what the first version of the film historically proved itself to be. "Frozen" raked in $1.6 million in global earnings and also bagged Academy Award honors for Best Animated Feature and Best Original Song.
To this day, the catchy theme tune "Let It Go" remains immensely popular.
Loosely based on the Hans Christian Anderson "Snow Queen" story, "Frozen" tells the tale of love and fear as expressed and internalized by two sisters who happen to be princesses. Buck is long on record in asserting that he wanted the story to be told through the prism of that kind of "real love," shifting the lens away from run-of-the-mill fairy tales that solely focus on the princess' only chance of survival being through the kiss or protection of a prince.
With years of filmmaking experience, Buck prides himself on understanding the power of animation's hold on young audiences.
"I take the films that I make very seriously, the messages and the morals that I'm trying to convey," said Buck, who has also worked on such animated projects as "Tarzan," "Surf's Up," "The Fox and the Hound," "Pocahontas" and "The Little Mermaid." .
According to Variety, Disney officially announced plans for "Frozen 2" back in March at a shareholder's meeting and the film is slated to officially hit theatres in 2018.
