The Nintendo Company has been conspicuously absent from the mobile arena since the onslaught of the new industry standard for mobile gaming. It was one of the first innovators of mobile gaming more than two decades ago with the Game Boy, but it has not been a commanding presence for gaming on mobile devices.

The company has now turned around on that idea and has announced a tentative schedule to release five games on mobiles devices by March 2017, according to The Wall Street Journal. Information for this new venture has been posted on the Nintendo website.

This is a direct response from consumer demand and investors, who have long wanted to see the company venture into the mobile gaming market via smartphones. There is obviously a lot of earning potential for the company, considering the immense popularity of its present and backlogs of gaming trademark characters, which include Mario, Pokemon, Donkey Kong and others.

Nintendo took the first steps last March and announced a partnership with DeNA Company, which is a smartphone game platform provider. This co-venture could potentially bring all the classic Nintendo games and characters to smartphones across the globe, even though the company has only announced five for now.

The company has insisted that upfront it will focus on quality of the smart app platforms, before they start rolling out more gaming options. This of course means that they are putting quality ahead of quantity in this new business venture.

David Gibson, an analyst for Macquarie Capital Securities, cast doubts about that approach, saying even though it could capture up to 4 percent of the market by March next year, there could still be a delay in the app launch should they focus too much on quality.

According to an article on NDTV Gadgets, the first of the games are to launch by the end of this year.
