Florida School Principal Busted for Smoking Marijuana, Found With Unbuttoned Shirt & Student
A Florida high school principal was arrested last week after police caught her smoking marijuana in the back seat of a car with an 18-year-old student.
Officials say that Mavericks High School Principal Krista Morton and the male student were arrested on Wednesday for marijuana possession. The incident occurred after the North Palm Beach Police Department received a 911 report about a couple engaging in suspicious activity in a parked car at Lakeside Park in North Palm Beach Wednesday evening. Police say that the person called police around 5:45 p.m. and "thought that there were people in the back seat engaged in some sort of sexual activity or being attacked," police said, reports NBC affiliate WFLA.
When an officer knocked on the car window, he found Morton, who is married, in the backseat of a car smoking pot with the teenage boy. According to the report, Morton's shirt was unbuttoned, "exposing her shoulders and part of her chest."
The 45-year-old charter high school principal insisted to police that she and the teen were "just friends," according to the police report obtained by the Sun Sentinel. "She continued to tell me that she had just met him, that she was lonely, she had just picked him up down the street and brought him here to get to know him," police said.
The report also states that police could smell "the odor of fresh burnt marijuana coming from inside the vehicle."
Although the educator didn't admit to smoking marijuana, she did say marijuana was smoked in the car. Along with a bag of marijuana, police found a lighter and rolling papers. Meanwhile, the student possessed a grinder, additional lighters and a small screwdriver.
According to the police report, the teen later admitted that Morton was the principal of his school.
Both were charged with possession of marijuana. However, Morton was released from the Palm Beach County Jail on Thursday while the teen is being held on $1,000 bail.
The charter school, which is part of the Mavericks charter school chain that was founded by Vice President Joe Biden's brother, Frank, has suspended Morton pending the outcome of the investigation, the Palm Beach Post reported.
