'Pitch Perfect 2' Spoilers: The Barden Bellas Pay Tribute To '90s Film 'Don't Tell Mom The Babysitter's Dead'
Since it was announced that The Barden Bellas would return for "Pitch Perfect 2," fans of the first film have been eager to see what new things are in store for the famous a cappella group. Reports now reveal that two main stars of the music-centric comedy movie might have managed to sneak in a tribute to their favorite '90s movie, which starred Christina Applegate.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the cast of the upcoming movie was at the Nokia Theater in Los Angeles for the advance screening of their movie. Joining Brittany Snow, Anna Kendrick and Rebel Wilson were Hailee Steinfeld, Anna Camp, Skylar Astin, Ester Dean, Ben Platt and first-time director Elizabeth Banks, who was also part of the film.
Snow, who portrayed Bella Chloe Beale in the film, spent a lot of time with Kendrick to the point that they were already sharing tidbits about their lives. During one of their conversations, they both discovered that they love the '90s comedy film, "Don't Tell Mom The Babysitter's Dead."
The two talked about the film so much that they were able to sneak in a line in "Pitch Perfect 2" in reference to the '90s movie.
Snow hinted, "I was watching the movie and I was like, 'Oh my God no one knows that!' There is something hidden in there that Anna and I did."
The actress revealed that there was a scene in the sequel where they copied a line from their favorite film.
"We both love the movie 'Don't Tell Mom The Babysitter's Dead,'" Snow said. "And we wanted to pay homage to Christina Applegate and that movie so there's a line in this movie where she says, 'I'm right on top of that Chlo,' and we just made sure that was there because the line in 'Don't Tell Mom The Babysitter's Dead,' is 'I'm right on top of that Rose.'"
The actress was also asked about the next installment of the movie and she said that she hopes her character would "take the advice of letting go of her control issue." Snow added that she has considered being a "hippy" in the next film.
Entertainment Weekly reported in January that if the "Pitch Perfect 2" becomes a hit, a third installment for the film could be coming.
"We're definitely starting to think about it but we don't know specifically what it would be just yet," said Peter Cramer, Universal's co-president of production.
"Pitch Perfect 2" will hit theaters on May 15, with an initial release in the Netherlands on May 14.
