Fans of the video game based on Tom Clancy's The Division would have to wait a little bit longer to get their hands on it as Ubisoft announced that the game has been delayed until 2016.

Ever since Ubisoft announced at E3 2013 that the game would be developed for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, fans have been eager to catch a glimpse of the gameplay. Soon after, it was announced on the developer's official blog that a PC version will also be made.

At the time, it was initially reported that the title would arrive to consoles in 2014. However, it became clearer that the game is not yet ready for release. Game Reactor reported in January 2014 that a developer from the firm revealed the game still needs to be developed further.

"The game engine works well, it's not done but works well. The actual game development has barely started, however," the insider said. "The fact that Ubisoft has gone public with a 2014 release date feels laughable to be perfectly honest, we will never be able to release The Division this year. It's a large project, and we have very far to go."

It was then reported that the title would hit consoles and PC in late 2015.

However, new reports from the developer's site confirmed that The Division will not hit the market until 2016.

Developers at Ubisoft came up with a new timeline for the release date. The game will come out in the last quarter of the company's 2015-2016 financial year. Hence, fans could expect the game to hit consoles from January 1 to March 31, 2016.

Fans were disappointed to learn of the second major delay. However, Ubisoft clarified that it was necessary for the game to be exactly how they planned it to be.

"We believe we have a great title in our hands and we are giving additional time to our developers to fully fulfill their creative vision," said Ubisoft in a statement the company released to the Video Gamer. "This decision proved right on WD [Watch Dogs] which clearly outperformed the targets we had set up for its original FY14 launch more than compensating for the extra development costs incurred."

Nonetheless, fans would still be able to have a glimpse of the highly anticipated title as the developers announced that The Division would be exhibited at E3 in June.

"All of us at Massive, Reflections, Red Storm Entertainment and Ubisoft Annecy want to ensure the game not only meets out high expectation but also those of our fans and players alike. We are proud of what we have achieved so far and can't wait to show you more next month at E3," revealed the announcement on the game's official site.
