Wednesday’s Powerball is here. There was no grand prize winner on Saturday when the winning numbers were 4, 15, 17, 35 and 58, and the Powerball was 17, so the money has once again rolled over and is now at $100 million, with a cash value of $64.1 million.

There were 442,848 regular winners, and $5,460,494 in non-jackpot money won.

There is a 1 in 175,223,510.00 chance in winning the grand prize, and a 1 in 5,153,632.65 in winning $1,000,000, so when it comes to taking home the big money the chances are obviously slim. But regardless of the long shot odds, people win.

As reported by WTAJ News in Pennsylvania, a Powerball ticket worth $1 million was purchased at the Sheetz convenience store in Hollidaysburg. The Powerball player matched all five white balls on the May 9 drawing, except for that last the red Powerball. The convenience store wins as well, as they will receive a $5000 bonus for selling the winning ticket.

The Powerball rules state that prize has to be claimed and the ticket needs to be validated before the winner can be identified, and Pennsylvania Lottery Powerball winners are allowed one full year from the drawing date to claim prizes.

As a way to be safe, the Powerball always encourages whoever is holding the winning ticket to sign the back.

Incidentally, as noted by PRNewswire, the Pennsylvania Lottery is the only state lottery that has all of its proceeds going to programs that benefit older residents. And since it started up in 1971, the Pennsylvania Lottery has contributed more than $24.7 billion to programs that include property tax and rent rebates, free transit and reduced-fare shared rides, as well as long-term living services for the elderly.
