Crowd Cheers After Woman Likens Immigrants to 'Rats and Roaches' at GOP Summit [Watch]
Conservatives whistled and cheered at a recent GOP event when the mother-in-law of Citizens United Foundation President Dave Bossie likened immigrants to "rats and roaches."
The woman, who has not been named, delivered her disparaging remarks on Saturday during a focus group at the South Carolina Freedom Summit, the Huffington Post reported.
In video footage of the event, the moderator, Republican pollster Frank Luntz, joked that Bossie would "kick [his] butt" if he ended the session before giving the woman time to make a comment.
After approaching her, he asked her to give advice to GOP presidential candidates in the 2016 election.
In response, she said: "One man, one vote. People are comin' in this country across the borders like rats and roaches in the wood pile," drawing applause and cheers from the crowd.
"We've got a state like Minnesota that says it's not our business to check 'em out, we just register 'em. We've got to get control. That's what they need to know," she added.
Luntz then reached for the microphone, but the woman rebuffed him and continued to speak.
"Years ago, I might have been a Democrat, but I saw the problem and I went to the Republican Party," she said. "I didn't wait for them to come looking for me. Why do these young people have to be solicited? We are all intelligent people. We need to be voting our convictions and choose a party."
Once she was done, Luntz asked the audience if they would vote for her for president, which drew even more cheers and applause.
According to Raw Story, Bossie's mother-in-law was referring to a Minnesota bill that would allow undocumented immigrants to obtain drivers' licenses. The proposal, however, has been amended to add the phrase "For driving only," which means that immigrants could not use it to vote.
