Rather than ending with a dramatic showdown and a shocking cliffhanger, the Season 2 finale of "The Originals" wrapped up with a quiet, beautiful and emotional twist last Monday.

During the finale, the Mikaelson siblings defeated their evil Aunt Dahlia by resurrecting their mother Esther and using her blood to destroy the powerful witch. However, before her demise, Dahlia forgave Esther for abandoning her, and the sisters died while embracing one another in a hug.

In addition, Rebekah, who became a human once again, said goodbye to New Orleans and Marcel and vowed to figure out another way to bring Kol back, notes E! News.

Although it looks like Rebekah will not be around much when the show returns in the fall, executive producer Michael Narducci revealed that fans can expect to see a lot more of Freya because Riley Voelkel has been cast as a series regular.

"Freya is going to stick around and help raise [Hope]," Narducci told TVLine. "She's allowing Rebekah the chance to go have a life by sticking around. I'm really excited to see what role this new sister is going to have in the family and how she may play off of both of her brothers. I'm really excited about that family dynamic."

The EP also dropped hints about what's to come in Season 3 during an interview with Entertainment Weekly. Now that Dahlia is no longer around, Narducci said, "[Freya] is going to make good on her promise to help that child grow and have control over herself. Even though Hope is a first-born Mikaelson and has a lot of power as a witch, Freya too is a first-born Mikaelson and might be just the person to help Hope figure out who she is and how to grow up and be a healthy person."

Although Rebekah has parted ways with New Orleans, the showrunner hinted that fans will see "her in a very interesting flashback story." He added that the show's staff would also "love to see her at some point reclaim Rebekah's original body."

In the meantime, the show plans to "explore a lot of stuff with Vincent" next season, he teased. "We're going to see his past and where he's from and why he's such an interesting character: What led him to walk away from magic, why he feels obligated to remain in New Orleans and be a part of everything that's going on in his city."

Furthermore, "There is going to be a new arrival into the town of New Orleans, and I think that it's going to highlight Marcel's special relationship with this family in a way that's going to bring Marcel back to the forefront," he added.
