NYC New Year's Eve 2014: Live Stream Of Times Square Ball Drop & Official Performance Lineup [VIDEO]
Millions of people will gather on Tuesday in Times Square for the famous New Year's Eve ball drop celebration and the festivities are expected to garner up to a billion viewers worldwide.
For those that aren't able to party in person for the ringing in of 2014, the evening's performances will be streamed live online for you to catch on your computer, iPhone, Android or other mobile device.
According to the official Times Square website, this year's New Year's Eve event lineup will feature live musical performances by Miley Cyrus, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, Blondie, Icona Pop, Jencarlos Canela, El Dasa, Rodney Atkins and Melissa Etheridge. There will also be other performances and fun surprises leading up to the midnight ball drop.
Here is a look at the official event schedule:
Revelers will begin rolling into Times Square throughout the afternoon and, by 3:00 p.m., Times Square will be fully closed to traffic.
The live webcast of the celebrations begins at 5:55 p.m. just in time for the lighting and raising of the Times Square New Year's Eve ball, which will happen at 6:00 p.m. The famous ball is 12 feet in diameter and weighs 11,875 pounds. It is covered with 2,688 Waterford crystals and is lit by 32,256 bulbs.
Immediately following the lighting and raising of the ball are the opening ceremonies, featuring a Chinese cultural performance celebrated with a fan dance and presented by the Sino-American Friendship Association.
At approximately 7:00 p.m. the USO Troupe will perform an Andrews Sisters medley and a Military Salute to honor our armed forces.
The first musical performance is slated to begin at 8:15 p.m. Rodney Atkins will perform "These Are My People," "Doin' It Right," and "It's America." Immediately following, Icona Pop will entertain with another musical medley.
Just before 9:15 p.m., Melissa Etheridge will take to the stage to sing her hit songs "I'm The Only One" and "Bring Me Some Water." Following Etheridge, at around 9:30 p.m. Blondie with perform a number of her hit songs.
At approximately 9:45 p.m., Toshiba and NASA team up to offer revelers a happy New Year message. According to a report from International Business Times, the message will be broadcast from aboard the International Space Station and will feature three astronauts: NASA's Rick Mastracchio and Mike Hopkins and JAXA astronaut Koichi Wakata.
Next up at 10:00 p.m. is another musical performance, this time by El Dasa. El Dasa will perform his hit songs "Por Ser Bonita" and "Mentirosa." A Moët & Chandon champagne toast will follow, and then at around 10:40 p.m. another musical performance will be done by Macklemore & Lewis.
Scheduled for 10:50 p.m. is a highly anticipated, exclusive reveal of Times Square action footage from The Amazing Spider-Man 2, brought to you by director Marc Webb.
Just after 11:00 p.m. comes another musical treat. Jencarlos Canela will perform hits "Popurri" and "Tu Sombra." Immediately following that performance will be a brief news reel put together by the Associated Press featuring some of the most memorable news highlights from 2013.
At 11:40 p.m. Miley Cyrus will take to the stage to perform several of her hit songs, including "#GetItRight" and "Wrecking Ball." Following Cyrus, Melissa Etheridge will come to the stage again for a special performance. She will sing her new song "Uprising Of Love" as well as John Lennon's "Imagine."
11:59 p.m. marks the final countdown to 2014. Sonia Sotomayor will push the Waterford crystal button that signals the New Year's Eve ball to descend and leads the final 60-second countdown to the new year.
