Bristol Palin has returned to her native Alaska, leaving her fiancé behind in Kentucky. According to reports, Palin only recently learned he had a wife as a teenager she never knew about.

Sarah Palin confirmed via a Facebook statement that the Memorial Day Weekend nuptials would not be taking place on Saturday, and instead the two families will be meeting for a barbecue to "celebrate life."

On Friday, Radar reported Dakota Meyer was married to Cassandra Wain as recently as in 2008. While attorneys for Meyer contend their union legally ended two years later, the website now notes, "The logistics of Meyer's first marriage remain mysteriously unclear."

Over the last several days, Radar reports Wain's sister, Raelyn Marie, also took to Facebook to chastise her former brother-in-law "for hiding his past from the Palins and involving Wain unnecessarily." The website adds Raelyn has since deleted her Facebook profile.

As part of her Facebook statement, Sarah Palin tried to add some clarity to the situation by endlessly defending her daughter and posting a message from her.

In part the post read, "Regarding salacious headlines in recent days about 'secret wives,' Dakota and I discussed our past relationships prior to our engagement. Dakota was legally divorced years ago, as any good reporter could and should have disclosed to readers. As usual, false stories and dramatically written headlines begging controversy should be disregarded, and we have faith that our privacy will be respected at this time by those with decency."

Reports are Bristol Palin has already been spotted not wearing her engagement ring. The 26-year-old Meyer is a former Marine who was awarded the Medal of Honor in 2009.

Sarah Palin was the Republican Party's nomination for vice president in 2008. Running on the ticket with Arizona Sen. John McCain, they were toppled by President Barack Obama. Since then, Palin has worked for Fox News and hinted at a potential presidential run.
