NBC ‘Hannibal’ Season 3 Episode 1 Spoiler: Hannibal and Bedelia Trek Across Europe as a Married Couple
Season 3 of "Hannibal" kicks off on June 4 with Episode 1, "Antipasto," on NBC, according to Spoilers Guide.
This hit horror-drama series on NBC has been scoring fantastic reviews from aggregated audiences on Rotten Tomatoes (100 percent rating) for its depiction of the original characters created by Thomas Harris in his series of books about Hannibal Lecter (Mads Mikkelsen) in his various roles as a psychiatrist, FBI collaborator and a murderous cannibal.
In Season 2, Lecter presumably killed four people – Will Graham (Hugh Dancy), Jack Crawford (Laurence Fishburne), Alana Bloom (Caroline Dhavernas) and Abigail Hobbs (Kacey Rohl) – he had walked away from the scene of the event, and we could only presume that he was on the run.
Spoilers Guide reports Season 3 starts out with a rather peculiar relationship, which most audiences did not see coming. Lecter has run off to Europe with his own psychiatrist in tow, Bedelia Du Maurier (Gillian Anderson). She previously expressed a fear of Lecter last season, and it seemed to be quite profound, even though her character routinely maintained a cool head and nearly never showed emotion, especially around Lecter.
They have crossed over to Europe, and after finally deciding to establish roots in Florence, Italy, the pair pose as a married couple and even entertain guests. Lecter has taken up work at the Palazzo Capponi museum.
But the pair cannot be clearly established as "on the same page," given that Maurier clearly indicates that she is not sure Lecter will not kill her. They only pose as a married couple to other characters in the story or when entertaining at their home. The episode features glimpses into the past that help the audience establish reasoning for the unusual pairing.
Lecter also clearly maintains his fine tastes for a human diet as old habits resurface in his new identities.
Guest stars in this episode include Eddie Izzard, Zachary Quinto, Tom Wisdom and Jeremy Crutchley.
