Alcatel is offering a smartphone that could save buyers hundreds of dollars, and the phone is very similar to the Apple iPhone 6 Plus, according to USA Today.

The OneTouch Idol 3 looks just like an iPhone 6 Plus. It has the same 5.5-inch 1080p display, but it only will cost a buyer $250 without a contract.

The Idol 3 is much cheaper than an iPhone 6 Plus. Without a carrier subsidy, given when a new customer signs a two-year contract, the iPhone 6 Plus sells for $750. That price can be lowered by customers signing a contract or adding an additional charge to their monthly bills to lease the device. The Idol 3 can be brought to either T-Mobile or AT&T without signing a contract.

Since the phone will already be purchased, no additional charges will be added to the customer's bill to lease a phone.

Alcatel is part of TCL, the Hong Kong based company that makes low-priced TVs. Alcatel also makes basic phones for pre-paid carriers.

The Idol 3 competes with the iPhone 6 Plus, mostly in its design. The screen size and the display are pretty much the same, and the look and feel of the device is as well. It does have a nice 13 megapixel camera, beating the iPhone 6 Plus' 8 megapixels. Two premium JBL speakers can also be found in the Idol 3.

The Idol 3 runs Android Lollipop and will be capable of running all the latest Android apps.

The smartphone is not quite as fast as the iPhone 6 Plus and that is understandable because of the difference in prices. The 13 MP camera in the Idol 3 will work well in daylight, but it struggles for night photography.

CNet says in its review that it provides mid-range features at an entry-level price.

A shattered iPhone 6 Plus will cost a buyer a considerable amount of money. The Idol 3 gives similar performance of an iPhone 6 Plus at a much lower price. For those who can accept slightly slower performance, the Idol 3 is a nice alternative to an iPhone 6 Plus.
